OpenNap questions and OpenNap vs. Peer

Posted by Corey on 10/17/60 11:27

So with the initial demise of the peer network earlier in the week I
switched over to OpenNap, as described in this NG. I had some succes with a
few servers, found some music and some movies - some things I didn't finding
on Peer when it was up. But I have a few questions now that I can use
OpenNap and Peer.

1) Is one network preferred over the other? From my untrained
eye/experience it looks like I had more success in finding filse on OpenNap
than Peer. But for whatever reason it didn't look like OpenNap was
completing shared files like Peer does (if 20 users have the same file you
can download from multiple users in Peer, but not in OpenNap).

2) Can I run both networks at the same time? Any advantages or
disadvantages to having both running/searching/downloading?

3) Is there a way to search only one of the networks over the other with
both connected? Is there any reason to?

4) When downloading from OpenNap, when in queue the status would sometimes
read "Busy (42 in queue)" and other times "Remotely queued...". What is the
difference?

5) Also when downloading from OpenNap, the status of my place in queue
doesn't appear to update. I got in line for a movie at position 40, and my
spot never moved across an entire night. I "refreshed" by selecting Retry
in the download screen and I was at spot 22. So I am really moving up in
line with OpenNap and I just don't know it? Or was I doing something wrong?

I've searched around FAQs and help files and haven't found clear answers to
these questions for a novice.

Thanks
