#1: Experience. You learned for yourself that the Norton firewall is
junk.
#2: Others. I just ask my dad. He has performance guarantees on the
software his company works on, so they research 3rd party software
that might be incorporated in a solution.

Sygate has been operating for a long time now without major problems.
To see some of the past problems with various firewalls you can look
here:
http://www.iss.net/search.php?config=corporate&pattern=personal+firewall&x=9&y=14
Remember to check the dates! Some of these reports are quite old.
Now you need to add "rules" to yours and block the IP addresses I
have now re-posted. See your "help" section for instructions on
blocking specific IP addresses, incomming, TCP. It's a bit of typing
to enter all the needed blocks but it is well worth the work.
