Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of COWBOY BEBOP REMIX 1, FEVER PITCH
(2005), HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL (1958), MADEA'S CLASS REUNION, MEET THE
BROWNS, NEW JACK CITY: SPECIAL EDITION, SELF BIKINI READY FAST, THE
SILENCE, and VINCENT: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF VINCENT VAN GOGH:

COWBOY BEBOP REMIX 1 (reviewed by Rob Lineberger, overall score 92/100):
"Perhaps anime is defined more by style than story. If you buy that,
then Cowboy Bebop streaks to the top of a short list. Its sense of style
is unparalleled, with music so cool it will make you cooler just by
hearing it, characters so steeped in laissez-faire that you can't help
but admire them. The fusion of jazz, noir, mod, and virtually everything
else that has ever been cool leads to a vibe like no other."

FEVER PITCH (2005) (reviewed by Ryan Keefer, overall score 87/100):
"Fallon is a bit more socially outgoing and quick on his feet, and his
'hobby' is something that Barrymore is accepting of and tries to work
around, even when it's more obtrusive than the average proctology exam."

HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL (1958) (reviewed by Eric Profancik, overall
score 75/100):
"House on Haunted Hill does not have the slightest twitch of a scare.
Instead, it's a campy, corny, innocently charming film with another
delicious performance by Vincent Price."

MADEA'S CLASS REUNION (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 80/100):
"Some fail to fall into Perry's party line. They see him as a stunted
scribe exploiting an underserved niche market -- the inner-city
churchgoing public -- for his combination stand-up comedy act and
prosetylization. But the truth is that, when he wants to be, Perry can
be very funny. He can also be melodramatic, preachy, and so saccharine
and sweet that diabetics need extra doses of insulin after attending one
of his shows."

MEET THE BROWNS (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 82/100):
"Aside from the lack of Madea, the only other problem with Meet the
Browns is its baffling final act. Once we get to the actual funeral,
something goes screwy with the storyline. Suddenly, all the elements we
expect -- excess of emotions, family flare-ups, and inappropriate
behavior -- are replaced by a rambling, ridiculous monologue/sequence of
St. Vitus Dance by David Mann. "

NEW JACK CITY: SPECIAL EDITION (reviewed by Patrick Bromley, overall
score 88/100):
"He seems to be trying too hard as the movie starts -- flashy camera
angles, rapid-fire editing, and frenetic rhythms -- but the abuse of
style doesn't last. As it progresses, the film finds its footing and Van
Peebles grows more mature, competent and confident; by the end of New
Jack City, we've seen Mario Van Peebles find himself as a director."

SELF BIKINI READY FAST (reviewed by Lacey Worrell, overall score
80/100):
"I'm not sure what's worse: seeing long-denied ripples of cellulite
under the greenish lights of department store dressing rooms, or
actually having to step onto the beach for the first time, knowing that
at some point, that pair of ratty cutoffs is going to have to be
removed, showing one's backside, thighs, and midsection in the
blindingly bright sun. Ah, the treasured rituals of womanhood!"

THE SILENCE (reviewed by Joe Armenio, overall score 86/100):
"A plot involving a little blind boy and his adorable companion
struggling to fend off eviction is pretty trite and precious;
Makhmalbaf, of course, is far too refined a filmmaker to accentuate the
cornier elements of this narrative, but it remains a lighter, less
strikingly original film than he is capable of."

VINCENT: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF VINCENT VAN GOGH (reviewed by Eric
Profancik, overall score 83/100):
"This is a simple story with a rich tale. If you have any interest
in the art world or quality documentaries, then you will delight in
this movie."
