Duncan,
Thanks for the reply, and no need to apologize about delays. I'm a bit
slow about reading Usenet myself.
I've run into a serious problem with WinMX and my DSL connection. Seems
my DSL modem, and my ISP's DSL server, have a firm firewall in them, and
I can no longer download or upload on WinMX. Tried Emule, and the same
problem persists.
I have also tried running on dial-up, but still can't seem to complete a
transfer, though I'm not firewalled there. I suspect that if a
successful connection could be made, the transfer time would be
painfully slow. So, may not persue that.
Hey, there's a particular song I'm looking for, and searches on WinMX
over the last few years have not yielded anything. I'm curious if you
might have come across it, as your music tastes are quite eclectic. It
is called "Gigi From The Fiji Isles", and it was a dixieland
arrangement. Artist may have been Pee Wee Hunt, but I'm not sure. It
came out in the early 50's, as I originally had it on a 45. Gave it to
a girlfriend for safekeeping while I was in the Air Force, but she lost
it. Seems like it was a Capitol recording as well--I kind of remember
that royal blue label. The words began: "Oh gee, say gee, you ought to
see my Gigi, from the Fiji Isles. Gosh gee, say gee, she can make you
smile." And, I think I can remember most of the rest. Heck, I could
even hum a few bars of it!
If you've ever come across it, or can find it in your searches, I'd
appreciate a copy.
You mentioned binaries: are you working with any of the file sharing
Usenet groups? I'm thinking about doing that--just trying to find a
news server that's not too expensive, but that is reliable. The
freebies are---well, you get what you pay for!
Thanks for listening.
Best regards,
Stranger (aka Amenhotep)
