Those who own iPod are very satisfied with it. And those who
own iRiver are very satisfied with theirs, too. Those who know
both seem to think that iRiver is better, but like I said, if iPod is
all you know and has everything you care about, you'll be quite
happy with it, too.
For many, the main difference is the source of content: If you
like buying albums or individual tracks from iTunes, you need
the iPod [this may change in the future], but if you mostly get
the content from your own CD's, or in MP3 format, then the
right choice is iRiver.
[Disclaimer: I have owned iRiver for about 2-1/2 years, and
six months ago I tried iPod with iTunes for about a week.]
