I've got something very strange going on that I'm hoping someone in
this group may be able to help...
Although my mp3 files look normal (same name, same size, same file
extension), when I try to play them in my default player (winamp), the
ID TAG information is gone and nothing plays.
When I try to play them in iTunes, nothing happens BUT when I try to
play them with Windows Media Player 10, I get the following Windows
Media Player error message: "The file you are attempting to play has an
extension that does not match the file format. Playing the file may
result in unexpected behaviour. Do you want the player to try to play
the file?"
When I answer yes, about 10 seconds of a movie (Aviator) plays.
(Aviator is on the same drive)
Not all mp3's on this drive are affected but in 99% of the cases, when
a directory is affected, all the mp3's in that directory are. None of
the MP3's on any of my other drives seem to be affected but when I copy
a file from the affected drive to another drive, it still will not
play.
Here is a list of my recent installation activity (in order):
- Nero Ultra 7.0 (I restored back to this point and still no
diiference)
- Software Distribution Service 2.0 update (I'm very suspicious about
this)
- MS NET framework 1.1
- MS Color Control Panel applet
- uninstalled AnyDVD 4.5.6.2
- installed AnyDVD v.5.5.1.1
- installed iTunes v.6.0 (I'm suspicious of this also)
- installed Adobe Elements v.4.0
I really hoping someone out there may be able to help because I
treasure my mp3 collection and I'm afraid I'm about to lose it.
Please HELP...
