I'd use Audiograbber and rip to wav. From that point you can try a variety
of mp3 coders using a wide range of sampling rates. This is exactly what I
do--including the use of Audiograbber for ripping. I've used LAME at
128kb/s, wma at 64kb/s, and wma vbr at the lowest possible bit rate that
still encodes at 44kHz. The choice is always dependent on the material.
Percussion and full orchestra requires a relatively high bit rate; solo
piano can be compressed as much as 50:1.
