I would like an mp3 player that doesnt require any software install at
all, that looks like an external drive to any winxp pc, allows any
files mp3 etc to be copied onto it, is smart enough to find and play
only the mp3 files, and most importantly WONT delete all files when
synced on a different pc.
does DRM make it actually illegal to make such a player? it is hard to
believe since some palm pdas will work exactly in this way (though
storage is too small and battery life too short). Or, is it more of a
scheme to enforce enrollment in some online purchase plan, as
presumably they are not going to make a living on hardware sales alone?
so far i have tried ipod, samsung yepp, creative zen micro, and none of
them are drag and drop out of the box (i.e. without installing
software), and each will gleefully delete all files when synced to
another pc.
