You can easily browse eMusic before signing up for their trial. My
girlfriend signed up, got 50 free songs, closed her account, and now we
just use my account.
And eMusic now has over 1,000,000 unencumbered, 25 cent legal MP3s. And
I think it's the 6th most popular paid music service in the U.S. It
just doesn't have the major labels which is fine with me.
And the eMusic layout is web-based, no need for iTunes, and I find it
extremely informative and user friendly.
Of course iTMS is playing to the lowest common denominator, people who
don't bother looking beyond the ends of their noses for new stuff.
