Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of THE BELA LUGOSI COLLECTION, BOUDU
SAVED FROM DROWNING: CRITERION COLLECTION, THE FLOWERS OF ST. FRANCIS:
CRITERION COLLECTION, INSIDE DEEP THROAT, NINOTCHKA, RING OF FIRE: THE
EMILE GRIFFITH STORY, THE STING: LEGACY SERIES EDITION, SWING TIME, THE
WEDDING DATE, and THE WORK OF DIRECTOR MARK ROMANEK:

THE BELA LUGOSI COLLECTION (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall
score 85/100):
"Even though Bela wanted to force women to mate with monkeys, gain
revenge on the man who stole his wife, torture a motley group of party
guests, save Karloff from radiation poisoning, and pass himself off as a
New York mobster, he's never guilty of doing anything more than
dreaming."

BOUDU SAVED FROM DROWNING: CRITERION COLLECTION (reviewed by Steve
Evans, overall score 94/100):
"The Criterion Collection delivers a sterling presentation of Boudu
Sauve des Eaux (Boudu Saved From Drowning), a timeless French film and
small marvel of social satire, captured seven decades ago in luminous
black-and-white by the filmmaking son of an Impressionist painter."

THE FLOWERS OF ST. FRANCIS: CRITERION COLLECTION (reviewed by Joe
Armenio, overall score 88/100):
"Viewers' reactions to the film will be largely determined by how
willing they are to accept Rossellini's militant sensibility. At times,
I found myself longing for a hint of traditional dramatic tension, or
least a critical examination of its own premises; the film doesn't
reflect Rossellini's spiritual torment as much as subsequent works, and
at times feels oppressively holy, a bit too in love with its own
principles."

INSIDE DEEP THROAT (reviewed by Mike Pinsky, overall score 89/100):
"Inside Deep Throat is less about Deep Throat than it is about an
America struggling with its own sexual identity."

NINOTCHKA (reviewed by Amanda DeWees, overall score 92/100):
"Whether or not you generally like Garbo -- or even if you've never even
seen a Garbo film before -- you can enjoy Ninotchka. It's simply one of
the wittiest, most delightful comedies of Hollywood's golden age."

RING OF FIRE: THE EMILE GRIFFITH STORY (reviewed by Ryan Keefer, overall
score 93/100):
"During the recounting of the fight, several different people share
their recollections of how many punches Griffith landed, and the
variations are dramatic. They range anywhere from 17 to as many as 50,
which is a telling reminder of how different people remember one event."

THE STING: LEGACY SERIES EDITION (reviewed by Ryan Keefer, overall
score 90/100):
"All in all, for all the adulation that movie fans have given the other
films released around this time (and the adulation is legitimate), many
people seem to forget that The Sting is a very engaging film."

SWING TIME (reviewed by Joe Armenio, overall score 87/100):
"It does seem to me that Swing Time has some fairly critical flaws that
often get lost among the hosannas; they keep it from being an entirely
successful film, despite having some individual moments that rank among
the greatest in the whole Hollywood canon."

THE WEDDING DATE (reviewed by Amanda DeWees, overall score 76/100):
"Due in part to the performances, the 'romance' between the two leads is
more like therapy than ecstasy."

THE WORK OF DIRECTOR MARK ROMANEK (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall
score 90/100):
"As Romanek says several times over the course of this DVD (each video
is presented with commentary), he is an iconographer. He is out to make
the most of both the music offered and the visuals he can create. He
wants to combine the two into powerful snapshots of lasting resonance.
That he succeeds almost all the time is only part of his gift."
