I bought the Zen Sleek 20 GB, but returned it after 2 days.
I think it's a great player, but poor design and functional problems.
Here's why:
1) The power cable plugs into the USB cable. You must have the USB
cable with you to charge the battery, so you can't go anywhere without
the USB cable. (The iRiver H10, however, can connect to the power with
or without the USB.)
2) All I wanted was a portable hard-drive that can carry files and can
play music on the go. Simple as that. Is it too much to ask? I can't
plug the Zen into just any computer and play the music on the
desktop/laptop unless (a)I have the Zen software, or (b)I have to copy
the music on to the desktop/laptop. That's very unflexible for me.
What I'm looking for is a normal letter drive that can plug into a
computer directly via USB (or at least with a standard USB, instead of
Zen-specific cable). I would like to plug it into my laptop at work (or
any computer at a friend's house) and play music on the laptop
speakers. If you're like me, stay away from this piece of junk.
3) The player froze too many times. I didn't have a paper clip handy on
my way to work to reboot. Even when I did try to reboot it with the
clip, it would start the reboot process and freeze at the start screen.
I gave it two stars on Amazon because the sound quality is great.
Here's what I'm looking for:
a. Softwareless plug-and-play/drag-and-drop.
b. LONG battery life.
c. If possible, a universal USB cable (not a manufacture-specific one).
d. FM and recorder would be nice.
e. Must have great sound quality.
f. 20+ GB.
What do you recommend?
