I'm asking similar questions in the PCM or WMA 9 thread that's going at
the moment.

I'm using Total Recorder for recording the streams and it's a nice
inexpensive program that does a lovely job EXCEPT that the support for
Mp3s is limited to a 56k maximum bit rate. Other encoding - WMA 9
lossless is a fine example - works out real well.

On the conversion to high quality Mp3 side, I'm having a bit of
trouble. I've got a plan for conversion to VBR Mp3, but out of the two
programs I've tried thus far - CDex and Switch - CDex doesn't look like
it can handle large files (the show I'm recording is 5 hours long and
comes to about 3.4gb when recorded in PCM) and both are a bit slower
than I'd like (though the same may hold true with all such programs) at
a bit less than 2mb of Mp3 file generated per minute.

Perhaps the answer for me may well be another recording program that is
able to record into high quality Mp3 directly. I'll check out the site
you mention for alternatives.
