It is not a shortcoming of TR - it is a shortcoming of either...
1. your system codecs
- and/or -
2. your configuration of TR
In TR's options under "MP3" you can choose from whatever ACM (audio
compresion manager) codecs you may have installed. The fact that you
can only get to 56 kbps indicates that you have chosen Fraunhofer's
"advanced" codec. That may be the only ACM codec you have installed but
you can get others (see my dandies below in the "Codec Capers" section
for info). Additionally, you can point TR to any codec you want to use
including any lame.dll you may have with another program. Either of
those options will give you a full range of bit rates from which you can
choose.
