Well, one of the reasons petrol will be > £1/litre, as will diesel, is
because HMG takes so much of the price in tax. Good ol' Gordon Brown is
rubbing his hands all the way to the Treasury - the higher the price
goes, the more we pay in tax. At some point soon, the economy will start
to be hit adly bby this continued price rise - there's no end in sight,
but it would be a gambling man who likes very long odds to bet on HMG
reducing the amount of tax that it creams from us in this way.
