Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of AVERAGE WHITE BAND: LIVE AT
MONTREUX, BIGGER THAN THE SKY, BOCCACCIO '70, BORN TO KILL, DIVAN,
E'S OTHERWISE: HEAD SPIN (VOLUME 3), GHOST TALKER'S DAYDREAM,
MAGICAL SHOPPING ARCADE ABENOBASHI, and YUGO THE NEGOTIATOR:
PAKISTAN (VOLUME 1):

AVERAGE WHITE BAND: LIVE AT MONTREUX (reviewed by Joel Pearce, overall
score 85/100):
"Hailing from Scotland, Average White Band's fast songs sound like the
Funky Meters and their slow songs sound like old Motown. While they wear
their inspirations on their sleeves, they still managed to develope a
very unique sound, laying down some really great funk grooves."

BIGGER THAN THE SKY (reviewed by Patrick Bromley, overall score 78/100):
"It's a great example of the DVD bait-and-switch, in which what's
promised on the outside has little to do with what's contained within.
In most cases, this is cause for frustration, but I suspect that here
it's for the best -- the actual Bigger Than the Sky is no doubt far more
interesting than the predictable love story we're meant to take it for."

BOCCACCIO '70 (reviewed by Dan Mancini, overall score 88/100):
"Who but a collection of Italian directors could make a film that
critiques sexual double-standards and the social disparity between men
and women, yet manages to be damned sexy at the same time?"

BORN TO KILL (reviewed by Maurice Cobbs, overall score 90/100):
"This isn't a story about heroes or villains. Heck, it isn't even a
story about ordinary people. It's about bad people, worse people, and
downright depraved people, and it starts in a pretty dark place and only
gets worse, and if it were you or I or any normal person (I'm generously
assuming that you, dear reader, are normal), we'd have called the cops
and maybe also the guys in the white coats and departed rapidly in
several different directions. But, as commentator Eddie Muller notes,
film noir is 'all about notcalling the police.'"

DIVAN (reviewed by Neal Solon, overall score 90/100):
"By focusing so intently on the divan and allowing these other stories
to develop in the background, Gluck is able to throw the viewer a
surprising number of curveballs, taking the film places one would never
suspect that a couch could lead."

E'S OTHERWISE: HEAD SPIN (VOLUME 3) (reviewed by Joel Pearce, overall
score 68/100):
"Last time, when the story of E's Otherwise took a left turn into the
wasteland of teenage angst and bad anime humor, I was pretty
forgiving. After all, the second volume of a series can be tricky: It
needs to carry on after the first blast, but often hasn't fully
settled into the story. Bad news: E's Otherwise hasn't gotten any
better in its third volume."

GHOST TALKER'S DAYDREAM (reviewed by Mitchell Hattaway, overall
score 55/100):
"That's right -- this series is about a renowned dominatrix who also
happens to have the ability to converse with the recently departed."

MAGICAL SHOPPING ARCADE ABENOBASHI (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall
score 85/100):
"Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi quickly turns into a silly spoof of
quick-paced anime and pop culture references, and all sentiment is
thrust aside for gut-busting laughs and frequent giggles."

YUGO THE NEGOTIATOR: PAKISTAN (VOLUME 1) (reviewed by Brett Cullum,
overall score 88/100):
"If nonstop action or humor is what you are looking for, Yugo The
Negotiator (Volume 1: Pakistan) should be the last disc on your wish
list. It's made for people who yearn for anime that can carve out a
legitimate place in the world of cinematic storytelling."
