Absolutely. Helped that they kept the same cast for the main characters.
Couldn't imagine anyone else playing those parts. Oh God, could you
imagine Tom Cruise as Capt Mal Reynolds....there is no way I could have
watched the movie if that had been the case.

Yeah. I should point out that it was the Fox TV Network that screwed up.
20th Century Fox (separate company with no control over the network)
produced the show, and the DVD set, and were reportedly very supportive
of it. I just hope the network doesn't benefit from the DVD sales!

I have the first season on DVD and loved it. Watching the second season
on the FX channel at the moment. They are about five episodes into the
season, and I'm still enjoying it. I'd agree that it probably isn't
quite up there with season one, but still better than 99% of the rubbish
on TV these days.

You should give Wonderfalls a try. Another Fox victim. They showed only
four episodes out of the 13 made. There is a region 1 DVD set. Very
different, and very, very funny show, with a great cast. Another plus
point is that the producers had an idea they were going to be cancelled
after half a season so deliberately made the 13 episodes work as a
self-contained season. It doesn't leave everything annoyingly open like
Firefly did!
