I don't know whether it's just me, but I find that since the latter days of
laserdisc, and the introduction of DVD, I've got really picky over picture
quality. I can't remember the last time I watched even a full-speed VHS
recording.

I've got a Toshiba DVD/HD recorder, and find that I really can't tolerate
the picture quality beyond about 2.5 hours on a disc. The only time I
squeeze more than that on a disc is when I'm recording digital radio from
Freeview, when there's only a logo on the screen!
