I too have to make do with my TV being in the corner of the room. Unless
you're a bit of an audiophile there's no need to go to such drastic measures
as rearranging your living room.

The front speakers are simple enough - just place them either side of the
TV. Because they're stuck in the corner and closer together than I'd really
like, I angle them outwards a touch to spread the sound field out slightly -
and I do mean just a touch.

The rear speakers are a bit more awkward and what I'd ideally like has be
compromised with the type of house I can afford to live in :) My sofa is
against the wall so the rear speakers can't really go behind the viewer
either - if we go back to that diagram at
http://www.dolby.com/consumer/home_entertainment/roomlayout.html imagine
that the TV is about 2 feet to the left and in a corner so is angled to face
the sofa.

The rear speakers are placed more or less as shown in the diagram - just
above head height (when sitting down), level with the back wall, about a
foot either side of the sofa. The rear speakers are then turned inwards
towards the sofa almost 90 degrees - note the 'almost' - experiment with
what sounds best for you.

Your amp should have controls for how far away the speakers are placed and
their relative volume to each other. Because the rear speakers are so close
to the listening position you'll probably find you need to turn them down
quite a way to get a sensible balance with the front speakers.

Hope that's useful to you.
