agreed, but I also managed to view one a few months ago in Brum, and knew it was
what I needed.

I only have 13, but do intend to buy more now I have the new player, and some spare
cash coming from ebay (hopefully)

OK, audio first : The Denon does play audio CDs a lot better than the Pioneer, but
that fact is fairly well know, ie, the Pioneer is not too hot on audio CDs.
DVD-Audio & SACD are about the same TBH. DVD Video, esp with DTS is rockingly good.
Even my tone deef missus noticed the difference. Using a Denon 1803 AV amp with
optical cable, and Monster 6ch phono for 5.1 audio.

Video - even upscaling/upsampling or whatever the thing does is a big improvement on
colour vibrance in the Denon. Using component out to the new LG 32" LCD, but just
awaiting delivery of a cheap HDMI gold plated plugs cable at 1.5m for £11 delivered.
If it makes a really noticeable difference to component, then I will auditioin the
Ixos, which (on paper) looks quite good, but I do agree, dig is dig, and no amount
of snake oil should prove otherwise, so I may just stick with my cheapo cable, I'll LYK.

Remote is inconsequential as the 1803 amp remote is able to do the same job. But,
although it looks cheap and nasty, it does all the is required, is uncluttered and
easy to navigate.

In the various chats I had with the shops, most of them were not *quite* clued up
enough to answer all of my questions, but one thing was obvious - these Denons are
flying out of the shops and not generally coming back ! Proof of pudding etc.

I have so far tried DVD Vid, with DD & DTS, DVD-A, SACD, JPG, WMA, XVid (small
screen in centre of TV, only 256 pix high) & MP3, all of which were very good. Also
tried some homemade backups on DVD-R which were a bit blocky due to compression and
THIS showed much more on the Denon than the Pioneer !

Well TBH, I *upgraded* from this same player to the Denon, so in honesty I must
recommend it, or I would look stupid ;-) BUT the pIoneer will go dirt cheap by the
looks of it, so it may save you £200 or so !

Ya pays ya money etc. Good hunting.
