Thanks for all your very helpful replies Frank. Hope you're having
some success with your fan repair. I'm making steady progress, largely
on the back of the help I've had here.

I have yet to prove it conclusively, but it's beginning to look as if
I can repair some of those 'bad' discs by using the Full Format
facility in DVD Info Pro, the program pezoids recommended.
