Fair enough, Richard. I am always aware of the volume of stuff on
newsgroups, so try to give the most condensed explanation!
Idea is to create a multimedia archive of a conference. This might
include the text version of the presentation, audio, video of the
speaker, perhaps video of the audience, and finally a representation of
what was seen on the screen.
Here is a rough example of what I am aiming for:

The idea is to have all the the multimedia components held separately,
then combined using SMIL (multimedia extension for XML). Ideally, all
will be linked together too. For instance, in the middle of the
audio/video you might want to refer to the written text for that
portion, or vice versa.
It's at the early stages, but the bit we have been discussing is the
most challenging for me.
