Vernon,
VCR's are cheap now, save yourself an hour with each tape by purchasing a
second vcr since you don't want to disconnect and move your existing one.
That's the first step to cut down on time, then adding a realtime mpeg
encoder card will save time on the transcoding but be prepared to spend
around a grand, the Matrox rtx100 can do realtime transcoding and a few
cnopus cards but they aren't cheap. You'd probably better off capturing
directly to mpeg2 with some cheaper cards and do limited editing and stuff
with software like videoredo, and author menus with yet another program.
I suffer the same problem with my adobe suite, mpeg transcoding takes the
longest, esp with 2 pass and highe bitrates.
I wish there was a simple solution, I'd be doing it already.
OH And I already have a Standalone DVD recorder with a HDD in it, it's not
the panacea it's made out to be if you want to edit and add titles and
stuff,
it does real simple edits only and chapter creation is limited also
depending on editing mode, DVD-VR vs DVD-Video mode etc...
If only things did everything we needed, if only! :)
