Hey Vernon,
I too am trying to find a faster solution for that.
Especially when I want to put some tv shows on dvd to save, don't feel like
capturing in DV and waiting to encode.
I tried 2 simple dvd mpeg capture cards with realtime encoder chips inside
to capture directly in mpeg2 to start with,
both didn't work well at all, one was so cheap, I don't even think it had
mpeg hardware encoder inside. The other
was not so bad, it captured ok to PC but drivers were flakey and messed up
my other programs, good think I had a ghost image
to go back to! :)
I just a Plextor PX-M402U that I will test tomorrow, if that works ok, I'll
let you know, otherwise I'll give up that quest for now.

I hope this can do the job quickly and I wonder how long the software audio
AC3 encoder will take?
