Re: Sony FX1 (or Z1U)??

thanks so much for the recap John i absolutely loved the build at the end.
really and appreciably i had to share it with my wife who has been watching
me fall apart one piece at a time on this project. if i get this thing done
it will only be perserverence to the objective, get the program on the air
digitally by 10/1/05.

looks like the wire has approached and as John most amply projected (but not
the reasons that were indicated - the deception monsters) we're going
dvx100a's. i personally wanted the sony z1u but two local tv broadcasters
(we have 19 in our local market) shared with me that there are more than a
dozen regular weekly shows being produced with panasonic dvx100a's AND that
there are nearly two and a half times the number of panasonic dvx100a's in
the field at television stations than there are sony fx1 & z1u's COMBINED.
that's amazing! guess that should tell us all what we should at least be
directing our attention toward, huh? and, from the conversation looks like
part of the reason is that by and far tv stations have been pleased with
panasonic's dvcpro that litterally captured the digital tv market and has
become the STANDARD like sony used to be with beta. guess, there's a NEW
LEAD horse, huh?

also, when i called around to see if i could "test drive" a sony z1u, there
isn't a single one on the shelf of any store within 128 covering 3 major
cities in ohio and two major cities in pennsylvania. in fact, the largest
seller of sony z1u's sold 6 in the last year while the smallest seller
indicated that his order database was to tell but 100's anyway. thus, if
the 100's format, specs, and whatever it is that is not too cool is sooo
bad, wonder why every one is ordering them? one reason stated to me sounded
half way reasonable. . the z1u' has an identity crisis. it thinks it's a
$20,000 dvcam but it's not and thus it is the only camera on the market with
mini dv that records dvcam like the biggies but to the best of everyone i
talked to, no one knew of a minidv recorder or player that could be used.
kinda like the VHS "C" one said.

thus for local product support, system identification, and application usage
(AND since the whole SD/HD battle isn't resolved yet) we're gonna go with
the 100's and pick up yet a forth cam as the founder and co-host want to
have another wide angle that will be on them that can just be switched to
without need to focus.

thanks for all the help guys and for the lead in this matter and i hope to
report back some good results forthcoming next month OR "o geez, what do i
do now?"

leaving the FUD zone :o)
