hmmmm. wonder where they're selling them? every store i contacted within
128 miles including among them akron, cleveland, and pittsubugh, didn't have
one in stock but could get one in a week, and not because their sold out but
because they just sit on the shelf. the largest seller has sold 6 in nearly
a year (8.5 months to be exact) while on the other side one small place
outside pittsburgh has sold over 100 this past summer, many to television
stations who love to through one in every car they have going to the street
because of the cameras video and sound quality. one tv producer said that
they bought three z1u's found that they had to get a separte portable dat
recorder to pack and take the ouput of the z1u to the dat for video and
carry a side pack audio mixer for sound because the sound was so poor on the
z1u. in fact, he said that the operators hated the camera soooo bad that
they preferred the old betacams and the production manager said he had to
rid the station of the beta's to force the use of the z1u and when the
panasonic rep came in he gave them some credit for their sony betacams and
loaded them up with several dvx100a's and that the stations insurance
company bought 5 more dvx100s when theree only three z1u's met with
disaster. one fell out of the back of a moving mini van (hmmm don't those
doors open up and have a ledge that nothing on the floor can fall out?),
another was dropped in a lake during a shot involving the two remaining
cams, and the 3rd was accidently run over when the bag was left on the
ground. hmmmmmm, all that happend in 6-7 months. they love the 100a's and
have since purchased two more and now there is a camera for every field
vehicle they own plus two in the studio for quickie footage like the news
update outside where they don't want to risk their $10K plus cams.
fyi,
