Should have a clearer perspective over the next few days. Clearly it's a
specialist camera, under cover documentaries, mountaineering
expeditions, video diaries etc. It doesn't have manual control over gain
and with a relatively poor low light rating of lux 7 at 0db it's
probably kicking in quite a lot, in which case the gain looks pretty
clean and free of grain. It's a great little tool though and a perfect
'stable mate' for the Z1's. I like the build too, oozes the best of
Sony quality, feels surprisingly heavy for it's size and will take a bit
of getting used to ergonomically. But even if I never use it it's
delightful enough to put in a frame and hang on the wall!!! And it's
1080i HDV as well as DVCAM, DV native wide screen switchable. Bloody
amazing really. I have no doubt it will get plenty of air time on TV and
wouldn't surprise me in the least if it gets used for specialist
sections in HD features.

By the way, BT is launching low cost 40 meg broadband down the copper
wire next year. So I guess that will be the same for the whole global
community. Wow! Global Community? Now there's a concept hardly
considered in some quarters. With the ingenious compression codecs
emerging along the same time line the transmission of instant multi
channel HD broad band is an actual reality. Is there any reason for the
existence of satellite, cable or terrestrial platforms in such a
reality? Glad I'm not an 'investee' in the current establishment, or one
of its sycophantic believers. It's all up for grabs folks and you don't
need to be a corporate giant either, just smart and creative.
