First things first, have you turned the video or audio tracks off in the
timeline? Look at the green button on the left of the tracks, if they
are darker then that track will simply not play, but the clips remain.

If they are on, are the original capture files still on disk? If you
control-click on the clips that don't play, you should get a menu which
will allow you to reconnect the media, if that is indeed the problem.
