Hmmmm...somewhere in the depths of my memory I recall (circa 1980's)
a home dideo camera (not a camcorder) that had an attachment to do
close-ups of 35mm color negatives, with a switch on the back of the
camera to invert the chroma and luminence. Perhaps
someone here may remember a model # and you can find one to experiment
with.
