Most DV camcorders have Firewire ports which are active
whenever the camera is running.
There are several ways of directly recording DV streams
via a firewire port on a typical computer.
Not ALL cameras will do this, and not ALL computers
will, either. To get something beyond a generic answer
you must go beyond a generic question.
Not clear what YOU mean by "edit/capture station"?
To most of us here, that is synonymous with "computer".
