Yes, that remains to be discovered. I've not been able to find a
description of the miniDV recording method so I'm not sure of the
relationship between video, audio, parity and camera data (ie. camera
settings and time/date etc) as it is transferred to the media.

However I did run another test, using another camera and firewire to
do a transfer of a known good master across to the VX2000. The
results were exactly the same as when running it in camera mode. Lots
of audio dropout - the worst so far, it certainly isn't getting any
better with time! Without knowing what processing/decoding (I can't
think of any reason why it should be decoded) etc takes place from the
firewire input to the heads, this test is a bit academic of course.
