FS4 does have the capacity of
three (3) tapes and can be reused thousands of times. Some station
managers (ok, 2 of 'em) have said in public forums that this FS4 saves
them hundreds of dollars of tapes per year.

The firewire storage device gives us another layer of production and DTE
(Direct to Edit).

finally, if you play a digital tape into analog (and redigitize in the
imageserver) you loose quality (how much is certainly debatable, but
some indeed). Now, if you play your digital tape (camcorder) INTO the
firewire FS4, you are preservering the full digital quality! Sooooo,
the FS4 is the "only way" we know about to keep digital quality for
third party devices.

It can also be used for DTA (direct to air) by saving files in DV raw
format then loading these via FTP into the video server.
