Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of AREA 88: A LONELY CROSSING OF PATHS
(TARGET TWO), BEST OF THE BEATLES, BRIDES OF CHRIST, COAST GUARD, DARIO
ARGENTO'S TRAUMA, DRESSED TO KILL, FRIGHT PACK: WALKING DEAD, GRAND
HOTEL: GARBO SIGNATURE EDITION REISSUE, OUR TOWN (2003), PANYO PANYO
DI.GI.CHARAT: NYU! (VOLUME 2), STREET TRASH, TENJHO TENGE: ROUND TWO,
and UP AND DOWN:

AREA 88: A LONELY CROSSING OF PATHS (TARGET TWO) (reviewed by Mitchell
Hattaway, overall score 88/100):
"While I do believe the series has taken a step in the right direction,
it's not a large enough step for me to hike up my rating. I guess we'll
just have to wait and see how things progress."

BEST OF THE BEATLES (reviewed by David Gutierrez, overall score 90/100):
"Where Best of the Beatles excels is in its portrayal of Best, someone
this reviewer expected to be the angriest and most envious man on earth.
Surprisingly, he isn't. Best of the Beatles shows a man who has long
made peace with dismissal from the Beatles."

BRIDES OF CHRIST (reviewed by Amanda DeWees, overall score 84/100):
"In Georgia, where I grew up and still live, Catholics are scarce on the
ground, and as a consequence Catholicism is as alien to me as the planet
Mars. But despite my ignorance -- or perhaps even because of it -- I
found Brides of Christ an intriguing, surprising, and illuminating
experience."

COAST GUARD (reviewed by Joel Pearce, overall score 80/100):
"Never satisfied with the status quo, Kim Ki-duk has added yet another
weapon to his arsenal: social commentary."

DARIO ARGENTO'S TRAUMA (reviewed by Mac McEntire, overall score 84/100):
"If you're in an Argento film, places like clinics, hospitals and
boarding schools are not nice places for you to be. In these settings,
well-meaning 'professionals' who claim they're 'trying to help' are
likely up to no good, and that's the case here."

DRESSED TO KILL (reviewed by Paul Corupe, overall score 82/100):
"While Dressed to Kill doesn't do anything revolutionary with the
gumshoe formula, that was never really the film's intention -- it's just
a very solid, character-driven B-mystery programmer."

FRIGHT PACK: WALKING DEAD (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall
score 79/100):
"You've got to be a real glutton for gore to sit through six movies that
feature the dead feasting on the living's supple flesh. You've also got
to be slightly insane, partly masochistic, and one dark twisted 'mofo.'
Thankfully, I am all of the above."

GRAND HOTEL: GARBO SIGNATURE EDITION REISSUE (reviewed by Ian Visser,
overall score 80/100):
"For those unaccustomed to the acting styles of the era, some of the
performances may appear over-the-top or outright hammy. It's important
to remember that the film was made in the period that saw the end of the
silent era and the dawn of sound."

OUR TOWN (2003) (reviewed by Patrick Naugle, overall score 87/100):
"If you shuffle Newman aside, what you get is a good version of Our
Town, if not great. Wilder's theatrical play -- somewhat corny by
today's fancy standards -- is given the same treatment it was
decades ago."

PANYO PANYO DI.GI.CHARAT: NYU! (VOLUME 2) (reviewed by Neal Solon,
overall score 79/100):
"With its carefully balanced fun and sarcastic approach and generally
positive worldview, the show is a nice change from standard television
cartoon fare. If you have young children with an affinity for anime, it
is worth checking out. Just don't relinquish control of the remote, or
you could find yourself feeling nostalgic for the days when children
incessantly parroted the songs of Barney the Dinosaur."

STREET TRASH (reviewed by Paul Corupe, overall score 87/100):
"This seedy chunk of NY-lensed celluloid has every unpalatable thing you
could ever ask for in a slyly humorous trash classic: a psychotic
Vietnam veteran, shoplifting, castration, rape, senseless murder, and-
the coup de grace -- alcoholic bums melting into a gooey mess after
consuming toxic liquor."

TENJHO TENGE: ROUND TWO (reviewed by Rob Lineberger, overall
score 87/100):
"In some ways, this series embodies some of the aspects I dislike in
anime. It also reminds me of why I love anime to begin with, and sparks
a response with its sheer spectacle and audacity. "

UP AND DOWN (reviewed by Rob Lineberger, overall score 92/100):
"The acting is superb, the direction tight. And the stories, though
loosely integrated, are individually gripping. Up and Down simply works;
the peek into uniquely Czech concerns is a bonus."
