Agreed and I'll be the first to admit it. The goal of the articles on
our website is to get you to buy stuff - preferably from us. But I
think that there is a strong bias in many of the publications and
websites in our industry. Not necessary editorial bias based on ad
dollars, but writers are people. If youy have a bad experience with a
company, that tends to be reflected in your reviews. And the reverse
is also true, some guys give products better reviews than they deserve
based on their overall good will towards the company. You want to read
as many reviews as possible, and visit the on line support forums and
other communities to get the "big picture".

We have a blog on our site http://www.videoguys.com/blog/ that I post
links to articles and reviews from all over the web. It is fully
searchable. (I believe it is also broken this weekend - but we'll get
it back up on Monday).

Both good points. Liquid did get good traction in the European Pro
market, but it never got any legs here. I don't have hard figures for
Liquid market share. It's definitely in the second tier of NLEs with
Vegas (2nd teir in terms of user base). Canopus Edius is by far the
smallest market share of the pro-sumer NLEs.

Keep in mind that 5 years ago you didn't have anyone using Final Cut
Pro professionaly either. Great marketing and product developement
from Apple has certainly changed that!

The GPU rendering and acceleration is hardware independent. You don't
need any specific graphics card, just a powerful one. (Although ATI
based cards deliver better bang for the buck w/ Liquid than nVidia).
The competiton is so fierce in the gaming world that graphics card
hardware technology moves much faster than in the NLE world. So a
Liquid user today can get a new graphics card next year, and see an
improvement in his performance.

Personally I've always liked Liquid - going back to the first time I
saw it as Fast Purple. The Avid Liquid 7 release isn't a major
re-write of the code, but they added several features that were the
top requested by the user base. It is also very significant that Avid
released this as Avid Liquid 7. They are committed to the product and
the technology behind it. Liquid still has features that other NLEs
have yet to add, and background rendering is amazing.

I wish there was a free version you could download to try it out.
Perhaps Avid will make one avaialble in the future.
