Slow down the burn speed. Burning a DVD at "constant angular velocity"
(CAV) means that the linear speed of the disc surface past the laser
increases with distance from the center of rotation.
Single layer DVDs burn from the center out to the edge, so as time
goes along, the laser has moved to a region of higher linear speed,
and apparently that is too high a speed for the drive-media
combination. That's why you get by initially but it fails later. Drop
down by a factor of two in burn speed and see what happens.
We had a Sony/LiteOn that would not burn worth a damn at the stated
speed of cheap DVDs (MemorWrecks ProdataF01). But we could get by with
only 1 coaster in 10 if we burned at half speed. That drive went back
to the vendor when we discovered it was not supported by either Sony
or LiteOn - neither wanted to be stuck fixing a piece of crap. We both
got NEC 3540s and they can burn any approved disc at full rated speed.
Only $40 at Newegg or Directron.
