As I understand the current state of the DVDR market, you really have
only 2 choices: 1) Very cheap, like the Ilo DVDR05 at WalMart for $100
or its equivalent the CyberHome 1600 at Best Buy for $110; 2) Pioneer
or Philips for $300 or more.
IOW, the equipment in the "middle" is pretty much junk. I have the Ilo
because I did not want to pay over $300 for a DVDR, and although I
have had some problems with it, I have fixed some of them with new
firmware.

WM supposedly gives you 90 days to evaluate the unit, so you are not
out anything to give it a try. Just make sure to install the latest
firmware. You need to call tech support the first time, and the best
time of the day to do that is first thing when they open (9:00 am PT).
There are two firmware modules, one for the application and the other
for the laser mechanism. You burn each one to a separate CD and load
into the unit like any DVD. The rest is automatic. The files you get
off the website are image files with an Nero extension (".nrg") so if
you click on them Nero will burn them onto a CD.
