I have this natural ability to make software expose its shortcomings.
That comes from 45 years of computer development. It is an
occupational hazard which serves me well when I am evaluating new
applications and acting as a beta test site.
What happens is simple enough - as you recommended I poke the crap out
of everything and pay close attention to what happens. Things that the
layman would overlook catch my attention because I have a notion of
what to expect and when something different happens I try to figure
out why. Most of the time the application is behaving normally - it
was my false expectation that lead to the appearance of an anomoly.
However, I do come across real bugs now and then and when I am
discussing the application I emphasize these bugs, which gives the
impression I am bitching all the time, because no one ever has any
problems with applications, blah, blah...
Whatever.
