You might want to get the 3550 which is new on the market.

The most widely used test suite is called "Nero CD Speed" available
 free for life uncrippled at

 http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/NeroCDSpeed_410.zip

If you get into DVD media testing, I recommend CDFreaks subforum on
 media at:

NEC burners produce cleaner test results with DVD +R discs than -R
discs. However -R discs do work fine. Just remember to buy ONLY Taiyo
Yuden brand discs. SuperMediaStore.com runs specials all the time.
Rima.com is another store but the shipping kills most deals.

TY 8x YUDEN000 T02 DVD +Rs burned at 8x. If you get the 3550 then
Riplock is removed so you do not need revised firmware. With the 3540
you need Liggy & Dee's 1.W8 f/w to defeat Riplock, a must when dealing
 with pressed movie discs.
