My first attempts at burning DVDs has been less than stellar. As
mentioned previously, I sometimes copy a movie for later viewing. Every
movie I have copied will freeze up somewhere. Some earlier, some later.
Until a few days ago, my DVD burner was a Sony with the latest firmware.
The problem occurs with FUJIFILM03, CMC MAG.AE1 and MCC 003 disks.
Therefore, I find it hare to believe that all of the disks are bad. I
have tried burning at high speed and at slow speed. The disks do not
show any bad sectors with CD Speed, but I also don't know how to
interpret the quality page.
My DVD playback is a Philips DVP642, which plays anything. The problem
does not occur on home made videos...only on ripped movies. I have tried
ripping with DVDDecrypter, DVDFabDecripter, and a couple of others. If I
play the VOB files on my hard drive, I do not see the problem.
So far I have not had time to test the problem with my new NEC 3550A
using the same disks. My TYs (+Rs) have not arrived yet.
If all of these disks are bad and causing this problem, there is a
serious problem in the industry. It makes me wonder what the
non-technical people do. I've spent HOURS trying to isolate whether the
problem is in the rip, the burn, the decode, the shrink, or the encode.
I'm no further along than when I started.
Any helpful comments?
