With a digital cable box, you CAN'T watch one show and record
another....unless it has two tuners built-in. The only option you have is
to split the cable b4 it goes into the cable box, run one line into the
cable box, and the second into the tv's tuner input....This would allow you
to tune to any premium channels(scrambled content), with the cable box, and
allow you to record the output to the DVR. But you could also watch any
other non-scrambled content channel(anything the tv tuner can see) at the
same time...

Hopefully you mean its L1 input, and not output...there is no reason for an
output from teh DVR to go to the cable box...

So I assume this means you have s-video and the audio from L3 out going to
the tv...

Unnecessary connection unless it allows cable tv pass-thru...if it does
great, if it doesnt, you need to use the splitter method outlined above
