VirtualDubMPEG2 is a derivative of VirtualDub which will accept MPEG2
files and convert to AVIs, using MPEG4 is that is what you wish.
However, if your intention is to process commercial DVDs then I imagine
you'd want something that will transform the individual VOB components
of a DVD into a single stream. I haven't done this so I can't help you
there.
To play MPEG4s is not a PLAYER issue. Just about any player will handle
these if the appropriate CODECs are installed. Probably the most
popular MPEG4 CODEC is DivX. However, there are others. I'd suggest
installing FFDSHOW (latest version from www.afterdawn.com) as a single
product that will perform the function of just about any CODEC you are
likely to need, both to encode and decode, and will work well with
VirtualDub.
