I am referring to the subforum:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=146146

Verbatim is owned by Mistubishi, and some discs are made in Japan
under the MID "MCC". For example, I got a stack of 100 Verbatim 16x
DVD -R for $42 at Sam's Club and the MID is "MCC 03RG20".

The participants on that forum claim that although Mitsubishi does
commission other factories in other countries to make Verbatim DVD
discs, the same quality standards are imposed by Mitsubishi as with
their MCC (Mitsubishi Chemical Co.) factory.

However I am not completely buying this "same quality standards"
stuff, although with MCC it is believable. I bought some Imation 4x
DVD +RW for my DVDR and they had an MID "Philips 041". They worked
fine, in fact I bought some more for use with my burner. Then I
spotted a deep sale - Maxell 4x for half price. The MID was identical
"Philips 041".

The first one formatted and recorded properly, but the next one did
not. The DVDR claimed it had set it up correctly, but it failed to
record two shows, which I ended up missing as a result. I then tried
to format the discs with Nero ("full-erase" at 4x) and the first one
worked but the bad one did not and the next 2 did not. That's 3 bad
discs out of the first 4 in the stack. So back to Walmart they go.

The moral of this anecdote is that you must be very selective when it
comes to DVD media. The manufacturers are pulling fast ones with the
MID.
