Hi!
Today I bought a new DVD-burner cos my old (Plextor 708A) went bad. The new
burner is a NEC ND-3550A.
Since it had an older version of the firmware (1.04) I did an update to
1.05. The firmware came from NEC's site and after the flashing the DVD-drive
the flash program told me to turn off my computer. I did that. After a
restart I noticed that the BIOS was screwed up! All settings was at a
default state. It had even activated the built-in soundcard which I turned
off when I bought a Soundblaster Audigy a year ago. Grrr...

It's amazing that NEC can't hire smart enough programmers that don't screw
up ones computer with flakey software. Obviously the flash program did
something it shouldn't. I have updated the old Plextor burner about five
times without a hitch. Perhaps NEC could consult with Plextor before they
write any firmware.

My computer has Windows 2000 which has been working stable as a rock for
over three years now. Luckily I could set everything as it was (I hope) in
the BIOS.

Just letting som steam off..
