Why what? Why will it look lower quality? Because if, as the OP, you
have a 'cheap' DVD player connected to an 'expensive' TV the upscalers
in the TV will be correspondingly more 'expensive' and thus give you a
higher quality.
Of course, there is always the possibility that the 'expensive' TV was a
rebranded ripoff, in which case the DVD player will give you higher quality.
Either way, to expect a massive (or, in my experience, any) improvement
over standard RGB is to court disappointment. If you want a
high-definition picture on your high-definition TV, you will have to
wait for a high-definition playback format (HD-DVD or BR, depending on
which wins the battle).
