I lie like hairy egg...
* Ensure DVD player has no disc in the tray
* Press 'Setup' on remote
* Scroll to 'Exit'
* Enter 2, 9, 6, 0 using remote
* Move right using remote direction arrow
* Select Region 1-6 or "Region Free"
* Press Enter
* Press "TV" or "Standby" to exit the setup menu
Et voila - one region free DVD recorder. Luvvly jubbly.
