HELP - audio issue with DVD recorder

Hi,

I have been trawling through pages and pages of troubleshooting guides
and the nearest thing to the problem I have is on Eltax's website:

No speech during playback films
During playback films, there is no speech in my TV speakers, what is
wrong...?

Answer:
It appears that the DVD-player in some specific situations can have a
problem with the audio output in the SCART connector.

The problem occurs because all speech (centre speaker sound) is missing
in the down mixed audio signal on the TV speakers. The problem ONLY
occurs when the DVD-player is connected to the TV via SCART cable.

This problem can be solved by changing the DVD-player Menu: Audio ?
Down mix ? to STEREO according to the usermanual.

This resolution would be perfect if I had an Eltax but I don't... I
have a Cambridge Audio DVD recorder hooked up to a Philips widescreen
by a SCART yet I cannot see any way of hooking up to the central
speaker. I will be FOREVER grateful to anyone who could help.

Thanks.
