I have both the Panasonic DMR-E55P9-S and the Panasonic #DMR-E75V (DVD/VHS
dual deck player recorder), and I have had that same experience with the
eject tray.

This has not been a problem with either of my units. The eject tray is
painfully slow, and it seems to take forever for the original screen to open
(unlike my old VHS players). However, once open, it moves flawlessly -- and
quickly -- from TV to DVD or from channel-to-channel on the TV using the
Panasonic unit as the viewer.
