Never have seen a copy protected tape cause a flash....slow fade, weird
colors, and variable brightness as the agc in the recorder responds to the
noise in the luminance signal, but no flash.
I've seen flash caused by a bad solder joint tho, and also by a failing
picture tube. I believe, from Larrys recent problems, the cause of the
flash is related to a defect in the TV. One easy way to find out is to use
the tuner in the TV, without any VCR at all. Or give the TV the NWJ
test,,,,,tap on the sides, top, and back of the TV, see what happens.
