Re: optimal size for plasma hdtv for 13'x19' room?

In very general terms, it's always been considered optimal to view a screen
from a distance equal to 2x - 4x the width of the screen. But it's really a
matter of taste, and the quality of the image. Good quality = closer, bad
quality = farther.
Personally, I usually lay out a room around the sound system, then place the
screen in the appropriate location for the sound field.

For average quality big screens, (720p), 50" is optimal for image quality.
For better quality (1080i), 60" or more is great. Avoid placing the screen
opposite a large window if you ever watch during the day, the light
reflections will be bad. (angling the screen can eliminate much of this)

Anyway, I'd suggest you go with a 60" screen, you'll be glad you did. If
you're watching across the shorter dimension of the room, 50-52" will get
you by. But with HD content, bigger is better.
