Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: MIDNIGHT SUN,
THE CONFESSOR, EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED, FAQS, JOHNNY BELINDA, A
LAWLESS STREET, MAN IN THE SADDLE, MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS: GRAHAM
CHAPMAN'S PERSONAL BEST, PAUL MOONEY'S ANALYZING WHITE AMERICA, QUEEN:
THE MAKING OF A NIGHT AT THE OPERA, and SOUTH PARK: THE COMPLETE
SEVENTH SEASON:
CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: MIDNIGHT SUN (reviewed by David Johnson, overall
score 90/100):
"All the lavish costuming was in place, the make-up, the hairstyles (my
favorite: one of the singers seemed to have inserted shovel handles into
her coiffure), the lighting -- all accounted for and as overwrought as
you could possibly desire."

THE CONFESSOR (reviewed by Mitchell Hattaway, overall score 60/100):
"Maybe I have a point here, or maybe I'm just trying to do anything I
can in order to avoid having to write yet another review about yet
another lifeless, boring, pointless thriller, I'm not sure. Well, I am
actually sure about the latter, but...aw, hell, let's just get this
over with."

EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall
score 87/100):
"Oddly enough, where Schreiber fails in this directorial debut is in the
climax. It's meant to be a heart-wrenching moment where everything
clicks into place, but Everything is Illuminated becomes a misnomer,
because everything just slightly glows."

FAQS (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 85/100):
"FAQS is so concerned with its own political message the characters
often spout lines that sound like activist philosophy, rather than
something real people would say."

JOHNNY BELINDA (reviewed by Joel Pearce, overall score 83/100):
"Like so many films, it wants to be all things for all people, but it
does a better job than most performing an impossible balancing act."
FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/johnnybelinda.php
A LAWLESS STREET (reviewed by Paul Corupe, overall score 79/100):
"With an emphasis on drama and historical ties rather than the usual six-
gun justice, A Lawless Street is a captivating tale of political
maneuvering in the Old West, complete with back-door deals, hired
gunmen, and carefully plotted deceptions."

MAN IN THE SADDLE (reviewed by Paul Corupe, overall score 77/100):
"De Toth's flair for composition and color has the image popping off the
screen in many scenes, and you can see the esteemed director's
thumbprint throughout the film, enough to recommend this film to any
viewer fond of striking cinematography."

MONTY PYTHON'S FLYING CIRCUS: GRAHAM CHAPMAN'S PERSONAL BEST (reviewed
by Ryan Keefer, overall score 76/100):
"In this version of his 'Personal Best,' the surviving cast members
recall him fondly (fellow Python Michael Palin said Chapman was called
'late' because the other members always had to wait for him)."

PAUL MOONEY'S ANALYZING WHITE AMERICA (reviewed by Neal Solon, overall
score 75/100):
"Mooney is obviously quite intelligent, and many of the bits in his act
are insightful. Others, however, paint white people with the same broad
strokes that have historically been used to perpetuate stereotypes and
prejudice against American minorities. Mooney clearly feels that
turnabout is fair play."

QUEEN: THE MAKING OF A NIGHT AT THE OPERA (reviewed by Brett Cullum,
overall score 90/100):
"But the interesting thing about Queen: The Making of A Night At The
Opera is how it shows Mercury was not a solo act at any point of the
album. He would lay down a basic skeleton of an idea, and the other
three would flesh it out. Queen was always a collective, even when one
of them wrote the song."

SOUTH PARK: THE COMPLETE SEVENTH SEASON (reviewed by Bill Gibron,
overall score 95/100):
"Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who combine to form South Park's sinister
soul, would like nothing more than to see the individuals and issues
they attack simply dry up and blow away. There is no reverence from
these amiable assassins."
