As much as I hate to disagree, those long skinny directional cardiod
mics are _not_ "shotgun" mics.
This is a shotgun mike, there's a sketch about 1/2 way down the page:
http://members.shaw.ca/roma/twenty-eight.html

It consists of 36 tubes, from 1" to 36" long, arranged in a hexagon
with the longest one in the middle, and progressively shorter tubes
as you work your way out:

(15)(14)(13)(12)
(16)(28)(27)(26)(11)
(17)(29)(35)(34)(25)(10)
(18)(30)(36)(33)(24)(09)
(01)(19)(31)(32)(23)(08)
(02)(20)(21)(22)(07)
(03)(04)(05)(06)

Crap! I bothered to sit and draw that, and it turns out that the longest
tube has to be 37", but I'm way, way too lazy to redo it.

(and it's hard to do hexagons in ASCII. ;-) )

Cheers!
Rich
